MakarSankranti is harvest festival and celebrated across India, Nepal, Thailand with different names.
'Pongal' is famous 3-4 fay festival in Tamilnadu and South India.
In various part of Andhra Pradesh (AP) it is also known as 'Pedda' or 'Peddala' .
'Pedda' means big and 'Panduga' means a festival. It is a festival, when prayers and offerings are made to ancestors.
It is a festival to thank God for giving a good harvest. By Mid January the paddy, the pulses, the sugarcane and all other cereals would have been harvested.
