Sacred Rasiya (Jaggery Kheer) Recipe

Rasiya is the sacred Prasad made on the evening of Kharna (Day 2). It is used to break the Vrati's day-long fast and readies them for the forthcoming 36-hour Nirjala fast.

Ingredients

Preparation Steps

  1. In a heavy-bottomed brass or steel pot, heat the milk until it reaches a boil.
  2. Add the soaked rice. Reduce the heat and simmer, stirring often, until the rice is fully cooked and the milk has thickened nicely.
  3. Crucial Step: Switch off the heat entirely and allow the kheer to cool for 5 minutes. Adding jaggery to boiling milk will make it curdle.
  4. Carefully mix in the grated jaggery until it dissolves. Present it to Chhathi Maiya with warmth.
